Day? Why do you SUCK so bad?!?!

I cannot begin to fully explain the extent to which this day made me want to start screaming and never stop...

1) Work: Don't ever allow a co-worker, no matter how cool she is, pawn off most of her duties to you while she's on maternity leave for an unspecified amount of time. (By the way, the baby is really cute - hi Madeline Rose! welcome to this bizarre world!) Today was my first official day with dual responsibilities. This means that it was sort of like my first day - you know where all of your new co-workers give you a nice, understanding smile - all the while thinking "What is with that chic? Why is she such a putz and WHY does she drink soy milk? She didn't disclose this vegetarian thing in the interview...what a freak." This combined with the usual workload made for one hellish day involving lots of making-shit-up to her customers and covering-shit-up after making silly mistakes because I was so busy.

2) Roommate (feline): Moses hates it when I leave him alone. This is why I take him over to my parent's house (kitty resort) when I leave town on business, rather than have a friend come over to feed him. Last night, I left him here alone all night while I enjoyed girl's night out. His revenge? BARF on my bed. Which brings me to the next sucky part of my day...

3) Laundry: Why is it that I am always 1 quarter short? Not 2 or 3 quarters short for my 2 loads, but always 1 QUARTER SHORT!

4) Surprises: I opened my mailbox today for the first time since last week (yes, I know - my fault) and MASSIVE amounts junk mail assaulted me as it tumbled to the floor.

Something positive here???

1) Beer in a box: This allows one to cut through temple square on the way home - carrying a six pack without being immediately identifiable as an infidel. I'm quite sure this displeases the Mormon god. But you can't please everyone's god all the time, yo. My god, incidentally, thought it was rather humorous. She encourages this type of behaviour. She also prefers the English spelling of words like 'colour'.

2)....I got nothin' else, folks.

Moses the cat prefers the people bed to his new kitty bed

Today consisted almost entirely of knitting and trying to avoid being within 2 feet of my cat. I've determined that this is the range in which asphyxiation caused by his atrocious breath is avoidable. Beyond the 2 feet, he's cute as a button, but I wouldn't advise going any nearer. It could be lethal.

I also spent a short amount of time trying to convince my mother over the phone that I didn't hate my family just because I wanted this one day to myself. The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hullo..

Mom: Should we come downtown and pick you up on the way to Uncle Cory's? You did get those corn tortillas, right? We're having a Mexican theme...

Me: Uh, I think I'm just gonna stay home today. I don't really feel like...

Mom: Why do you hate us? And now, since you won't be bringing the corn tortillas, I'll have to SHOP ON A SUNDAY! (In Mormonism, shopping on a sunday is one of the worst things you can do, like - worse than murder.)

Me: Err, wull - I never really said for sure that I WAS coming, and that I WOULD bring the corn tortillas. If you want me to, I'll go buy the tortillas so you don't have to, and then you can come pick them up on your way and that way you can avoid the store...

Mom: You hate your family, just admit it.

Me: Err, uh, no that's not it. I just don't feel like, I mean, I do attend family stuff several times a month, just taking one night off won't...

Mom: Here, talk to your sister - SHE'LL be very disappointed if you don't come with us.

Sister: ...Uh, hullo. What's going on? You don't want to go? Uh, ok - whatever.

Winter Masterpiece

Today I have been knitting furiously, fueled by uncomfortably large amounts of coffee and tea - as well as leftovers from the New Year's party at Erica's. Unfortunately, this particular yarn - while indeed REALLY cool - is heinously difficult to work with. I'm still a little less than halfway done. I planned to give it to my mother for Christmas, but by Christmas it was still only approximately the size of a napkin. In light of the amazing progress I've made today, I may just finish before the weather becomes too cold for scarves.

Today sucked. It was a gross, gray day. I did finally change out of my pajamas and go outside, but of course it began to rain. I went for a long walk in City Creek canyon anyway. That was nice, until I got to a part of the road that was a little icy, and nearly fell on my ass.

Back to the knitting...
