One Sunday afternoon in the SLC...

So I was hanging out with my boyfriend and my cat last Sunday, when the sound of helicopters hovering over the city and police sirens caused us to get off our asses and look outside. And we saw this:

And then they kept coming:

From my balcony:

And more...

I was very proud of Salt Lake. It was amazing to see so many people mobilized for a cause that is exceedingly important. I've heard people say things about this protest such as "Some of those people don't even know what they're protesting..." Who cares if they don't know exactly which HB13898752311 Bill or whatever it is that is up in the legislature? The fact is that they understand the broader meaning of this protest - that they are part of a group of people who have been marginalized in our society - but who are nevertheless an essential part of it. Not because they tend to take jobs that whitey won't, though they do, but that America isn't America without them. And I don't care if they're legal or illegal - they epitomize what America is. It's a place where people have always escaped to in order to find a better life for themselves.
